FAQ
Q: Will using this device void my vehicle warranty?
A: No. The device leaves no trace. Simply unplug it before visiting the dealer, and there will be no evidence it was installed.
Q: What does the LED light mean?
A: When you first plug in the device, the light blinks to indicate power and an attempt to connect to the vehicle. A red light means power is present (blue light for the switchable version). Blinking green (blue light for the switchable version) confirms successful connection and normal operation. The green light (blue light for the switchable version) will keep blinking while the vehicle is turned on.
Q: What effect will it have on gas mileage?
A: Many users see no change in fuel economy, and some even see improvements. Frequent switching between V8 and V4 modes creates hesitation and hurts city fuel mileage, which this device resolves. Highway fuel consumption may rise slightly, but the difference is minimal.
Q: Does this device reprogram the ECU?
A: No. The device only sends communication signals to the ECU and does not alter factory programming.
Q: Can I pass emissions testing with this installed?
A: The device itself does not affect emissions results. However, emissions tests include an OBD check, so we recommend removing it before testing.
Q: Can this device fix my already failed or collapsed lifter?
A: No. A collapsed lifter is a mechanical failure that requires replacement. This device only prevents lifter damage and cannot repair existing issues.
Q: Will it interfere with the MyChevrolet APP?
A: No, the device works perfectly with the APP.
Q: Does the product come with a warranty?
A: The Mataunion AFM/DFM Disabler is backed by a lifetime warranty.
Q: Does it add horsepower?
A: Disabling AFM/DFM will not increase horsepower, but it unlocks full engine power on demand. The factory setup causes hesitation when switching from V4 back to V8 under hard acceleration. This device eliminates that hesitation, yet it does not add horsepower.
Q: How can I confirm the device is working?
A: Flashing green LED means the unit is active. Pre-2019 AFM vehicles have dashboard indicators showing V8 / V4 status for verification. 2019+ DFM models do not have this indicator (DFM supports V3, V4, V5 and other cylinder modes), so you can only confirm operation via the green light. Contact us if the LED malfunctions.
Install Instructions
Plug-and-Play Installation
Step 1: Locate the OBDII port and plug in the Mataunion AFM/DFM Disabler. You may install it whether the vehicle is on or off. When inserting with the vehicle off, the power light turns on. When inserting with the vehicle ignition on, the status LED will start blinking.
Step 2: A blinking green LED indicates the device has established proper communication with the vehicle, and you are ready to drive!
Our device features ultra-low power draw. It can remain plugged in for weeks without draining your battery. However, we recommend unplugging it if you will not drive the vehicle for an extended period.
